Lollipop Corner!

Hailee has e'er wanted a cloak-and-dagger hideout,
a fort, a playhouse...whatever!
Luck was on our side for this FREE play corner!
Probably my favorite projection of the whole room!
These were lacy curtains that came amongst the house
my sis bought.  When nosotros were at her house, I
asked her what she was going to produce amongst the curtains
wadded upwards inwards the corner.  She appologized and
said she had intended on throwing them away
earlier nosotros got there.  I gasped!
I am together with then glad she didn't throw them away,
I was happy to accept them off her hands!
I took the loop from a failed lampshade...
Threaded on the lacy {already sewn} curtains...
Using this chain nosotros had inwards the garage...I hooked it
on to the loop amongst boondoggle lanyards
which nosotros also had inwards the garage.
I used iii pieces of chain to brand a form of hanging basket...
 presto!
Hung it upwards on an existing claw on the ceiling...
got this vinyl sign made equally a gratis gift for ordering
simply about trouble organisation cards online.  Love free!
 Fits everything important!
She loves her hideout...I honey that it hides her toys!
 Perfection!

Whimsical Mad Hatter Teapot Lamps!

 My favorite lamp!
A Whimsical Mad-Hatter Teapot Lamp!
Instant living room attention!
I posted my lamps equally i of the commencement projects on my blog...
in most iii totally scattered posts!
needless to say, the postal service could role a niggling redo.
I didn't receive got groovy "during the project" or "before" photos...
so you'll receive got to role your imagination.
But, hither it is.  Updated.
Create a fabulous, whimsical,
Mad-hatter inspired contention lamp!
Or several...dozen!
I dearest doing things inward bulk!
You volition need:
teapots, teacups, saucers, strange niggling ceramic things...
A light kit. About $8 at Walmart.
1/2 inch Diamond Drill bit! (about $18 at the depot)
Hollow, metallic threaded rod...for the ticker structure.
(I upcycled an quondam lamp...you tin lavatory too, unless you lot are a machinest!)

Light bulb as well as Lamp shade.
Spray paint
Vinyl decal...optional
Directions:

Disassemble your junk lamp. Keep all the pieces!
I bought as well as hence many broken lamps at yard sales as well as thrift stores...
paid most fifty cents to $3 for each.
I took them apart mainly for the ticker construction rod.
It's a hollow metro amongst threaded ends on both sides...
keep the nuts that thread on it too.
But salvage all the pieces until you lot are finished, because
you may quest spacers as well as weights as well as stuff...
Because I bought quondam junky or broken lamps I replaced all the hardware.
Safety third--right?
The drilling.
Drilling glass, china as well as ceramics is really basic...seems scary though.
Take a baking sheet as well as identify a manus towel within it.
Place your plate, teapot, loving cup or saucer as well as hence you lot are drilling through the bottom on the towel.
Mark amongst a sharpie mark your ticker dot.
Pour H2O onto your "to last drilled" item. The bottom lip holds the H2O perfectly.
To get the drilling, you lot start tardily at a 45* angle.
When you lot receive got carved out a decent one-half circle groove
you tardily select the fleck upwardly conduct as well as bore the hole all the
way through.
This took a lot of time. Slowly as well as patiently! I didn't intermission whatsoever glass!
Each slice merely needs a hole conduct through it...except
your base of operations piece...it needs a hole out the dorsum for the wiring!
And nosotros watched Tangled acre working!
I took the freshly drilled pieces as well as stacked them
up to encounter what arrangements I liked.
It was difficult to produce upwardly one's heed because nada matched!

So I took them out to the garage for their
 first coating of paint. PRIMER.
A low-cal layer of white primer on the teacups as well as some
gray primer on the teapots helps musical note things down!
Then spray painted them glossy white as well as glossy gray!
Some touches of yellowish or bluish for contrast!
Then I decided how they would stack up.

Then I spray painted the pieces I was using for each lamp.
The color as well as fashion is upwardly to you!
I added some swirly floursihes I cutting out of vinyl.
You could pigment designs or whatever you lot like!
After the pieces are dry, assembling the lamp.
Start yesteryear putting your wires through the dorsum base of operations hole.
Put the threaded nut on the wire.
Insert your threaded rod within the base.
Push your wires through the ticker of the rod until they come upwardly out of the top.
Secure the nut on the bottom threads. Use some pliers to brand certain it's tight.
Then stack your pieces upwardly as well as upwardly until you lot gain the top!
At the top, secure it inward place. I used a spacer from the master light that I tore apart.
Then the actual wiring. Don't panic!
Thankfully the total instructions are included inward your light kit...
how to necktie the wires, which i to claw on which screw...
I am non including them here, because lamps vary.
Just read your kit instructions. It's easy.
 Then pray.

Insert low-cal bulb.
Plug inward your lamp.
And because I had as well as hence many...
I used 1 equally a white elephant gift...1 equally a marriage ceremony present...
1 equally a Christmas present...2 equally a birthday present...1 sold on Etsy...
1 sold from home...1 was my sisters...
1 was mine...1 met a distressing fate when nosotros moved...that's 10!  :)

And, I sold all the residue of my drilled inward junk at my yard sale.
Good bye...until some other whim!

I posted my lamps equally i of the commencement projects on my spider web log Whimsical Mad Hatter Teapot Lamps!

Reclaimed Woods Light Alongside Himmeli Shade!

Reclaimed Wood Lamp amongst Himmeli Shade!
I pulled an erstwhile pallet apart...and at that topographic point were big woods blocks betwixt the layers.
They were junk in addition to were placed inwards the "burn later" pile.
Last weekend nosotros lit a smore's give the sack in addition to I constitute i of the blocks!
Instantly inwards my head, it became a rustic reclaimed woods lamp...
in addition to I rescued it from smore's fodder!

Here's how it came to fruition--you tin privy brand i too!
 You volition need:
iv yesteryear 4" woods block
drill in addition to 3/8" drill bit
bottle light kit &/or trace chain kit
java stirrer straws
wire
pliers
spray pigment (optional)
wax or stain (optional)
two hours

I got a bottle light kit...but in addition to thence decided I wanted a trace chain
low-cal instead, thence I got a trace chain thing.
I role my novel drill in addition to some drill bits.
I drilled inwards the centre of the top of the wood...but non all the means through the bottom.
Then I drilled inwards from the backside until it met upward amongst the centre hole.
I didn't mensurate or anything...it only worked!
I ended upward solely needing the trace chain unit, the electrical cord in addition to that hollow screw thing.
(yes, technical terms...ha ha ha)
Okay thence I cause got the holes.
I used a pocket-sized wire in addition to fished it from the backside upward through the top.
Then I tied off the electrical cord on the backside wire in addition to pulled it through.
Then I set the hollow screw affair around the cord in addition to twisted it into the wood.
It agree perfectly in addition to tightly.
I used pliers to tighten it completely.
Then I followed the low-cal kit instructions.
Screwed the bottom of the unit of measurement onto the screw thing.
Then tied the underwriters knot...
noting the ribbed coated wire in addition to the smoothen coated wire
 Now to attach the wires:
The silvery screw gets the ribbed wire, in addition to the smoothen wire gets the golden screw.
Just curlicue the wire inwards a hook, loosen the screw in addition to sideslip it around it earlier tightening it down.
(All the instructions come upward amongst the low-cal kit...so follow those)
Then I tightened the underwriters knot correct nether the socket thence it
will agree downwards within the socket cap tightly.
Then set the vanquish over in addition to business upward the trace string in addition to press it down
until it snaps into the socket cap.
 Lovely!
Now I added a footling finishing wax to the wood.
Just rubbed on amongst a pocket-sized cloth.
 Looks great...add a tiny circular low-cal bulb...and directly the 2d of truth!
I ever pray when I plug it in...hoping it all works!
Success!
It's adorable!
Great similar this...but I idea a fun shade was inwards order!

I did a Himmeli Geometric shade using java stirrer straws
 and sparse guess floral wire.
(Himmeli are Finnish mobiles traditionally made of rye straw)
This i is truly made of plastic straw in addition to non a mobile...meh, whatever.
It's a geometric icosahedron shade.
I began yesteryear cutting my straws inwards half...3 1/2 inches.
Works non bad to role a rotary cutter.
I unwrapped a length of wire...about a yard or meter.
Then I threaded on three straw sections...twisted the wires to brand a triangle,
in addition to thence added two to a greater extent than in addition to twisted on the other side to brand a double triangle/diamond.
Then add together two more...twist in addition to add together two more...etc.
Until you lot brand a triforce!
Then essentially every junction of straws is a laid upward of five straws.
It takes a footling practice, but comes together pretty naturally.
There is some double wiring through straws to larn them where you lot necessitate them.
But it's pretty fun too!
Any fourth dimension you lot necessitate to a greater extent than wire,
only twist on some other length of wire similar this.
The straws volition encompass whatever wire anyway.
Keep it going until you lot cause got made the entire Icosahedron!
and at that topographic point were big woods blocks betwixt the layers Reclaimed Wood Lamp amongst Himmeli Shade!
  It's got xx triangular faces.
Twist upward the final wire in addition to thread the residue of it through the closest straw.
Awesome--this would live a fun knick-knack!
 Fits the light perfectly!
You could larn out it black...like this.
 But I went gold!
I used spray pigment in addition to lightly misted the straws...let dry
in addition to repeated until the entire affair was covered.
It's thence cool.  It looks similar it's truly brass or copper tubing!
Who would guess they were plastic straws?
Looks amazing every bit a light shade too!
I only laid upward it on the woods block without mounting it.
You could tack it inwards house amongst staples or hot glue.
And looks amazing reflected on the walls!
 I dearest it!
I am totally obsessed.
I turned off all the lights in addition to called a household unit of measurement council thence my
kids could run across it an compliment me!
Haha--I intend they were glad they didn't cause got to help!
All inwards all it took me two hours, summation spray painting/drying time.
And toll nearly nothing.
